Honda Outboards Break-in Procedure

Honda outboard motors running-in procedure should be performed as follows, the break-in operation  allows the moving parts to wear-in evenly and ensures proper performance and longer outboard motor service  life.

The total time for Honda outboard motors running-in procedure is 10 hours.

First 15 minutes:

Run the outboard motor at idling or trolling

speeds (the lowest speed possible). Use the

minimum amount of throttle opening necessary to

operate the boat at a safe trolling speed.

Next 45 minutes:

Run the outboard motor up to a maximum of

2,000 to 3,000 rpm (or 10% to 30% of throttle

Next 60 minutes:

Run the outboard motor up to a maximum of

4,000 to 5,000 rpm (or 50% to 80% of throttle

Short full-throttle bursts are acceptable, but do

not operate the motor continuously at full throttle.

For boats that plane easily, bring the boat up on

plane, then reduce the throttle opening to the

specified break-in settings mentioned above.

Next 8 hours:

Avoid continuous full throttle operation (100%

throttle opening). Do not run the outboard motor

at full throttle for more than 5 minutes at a time.

Honda Outboards Warranty

Our warranty is the best in the business.  Just like you’d expect from Honda.

Yes, you read that right.  All new Honda Marine outboard motors purchased for recreational use from an authorized Honda Marine dealer will be warranted against defects in material or workmanship for five (5) years from date of purchase.  No catches.  No strings.  It’s that simple.

The True 5 warranty is offered and fully backed by Honda Marine for the life of the warranty.  It’s not a 3rd party “extended service” contract, like most of our competitors offer.

There’s a big difference: the third party warranty companies often are more concerned with limiting claim payouts than with satisfying your service needs.

True 5 coverage is the same on the last day of coverage as it is on the first. This is not like "pro-rated" warranties that offer decreasing coverage as the warranty approaches its end date.

With Honda’s True 5 Warranty, your motor is covered from top to bottom – from the first day to the last day of your warranty.

Selling your boat? No problem.  The original engine warranty still applies, even if it changes owners.

Honda Marine has a network of over 1,000 dealers throughout the U.S. who are highly trained and equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment.  It’s all a part of Honda’s commitment to keeping you on the water and out of the service shop. Isn’t that what it's all about?
